Modern Methods of Image Processing and Analysis in Astronomy

Over the past 40 years, observational astronomy has gone from the beginning of the digital revolution to the application of state-of-the-art scientific data processing techniques using deep machine learning. And of course, all these achievements have been utilized for one of the main applied areas of astronomy — asteroid and comet hazard. Computerized data processing techniques have improved the detection efficiency of near-Earth asteroids and comets and have helped increase the scientific longevity of small and medium-sized optical telescopes.

This lecture will make a basic introduction to the methods and technologies of modern observational astronomy and their application to asteroid and comet hazard and planetary defense issue. The overview story will give a general idea of the principles of modern observational astronomers and will be interesting for a wide range of listeners.
